acetylene B tank

hey guy's i wanna purchase a used spare acetylene tank, and i see alot of these so called B tanks for sale on craigslist. can these be used with a standard oxy acetylene cutting torch setup, do i need an adaptor.....thanks in advance guy's for any help....
 

There are at least 4 different connections so you will need some type of adapter kit.

Do you know what your current connection is???
 
They're very small and mostly used for plumbing and portable torch sets. If you just want a normal torch set that you don't have to carry into akward places, go with larger cylinders than a B tank. They will be much more economical and last a lot longer too. You go through the small O2 cylinders like crazy.
 
The drawback with a small tank is that you can only use a smaller cutting torch with it. Google it to find out if that tank size can safely support your cutting torch size. I don't remember the exact rule, but if your torch takes out the act gas at too fast a rate, the tank can blow up.
 
You really don't want a B tank to use with an oxy-acet rig. That tank is for plumbers to use as a soldering torch with an air-acetylene torch. An air-acet torch does not use oxygen from a tank, but does use air drawn in through the torch head.

Go see a welding gas supplier and get the correct tank for your welding/cutting. Acetylene used incorrectly will easily put you on the Space Station.
