I have a computer-less friend that has a IH W-30 with a bad engine, can he swap the block for a IH 10-20 block? Are the mounting points different, etc. Also is the clutch housing the same or different? He knows the heads are different.
Thanks

Based on Head gasket holes, I believe that my early W-30 has a 10-20 block. The serial number matches. IHC never threw anything away. If they had a use for a part, they would use it where it would fit.
Thus, I believe the 10-20 block will work in your W-30.

its basically the same engine. heads are the same also only difference is the w-30 head has the waterpump mounting on the front, but it still works on the 10-20. cant use the 10-20 head on the w-30 though.

I believe you will find that the W-30 head has a different "Water-Hole" pattern to facilitate the increased flow resulting from a water pump.

The blocks are exactly the same except for ONE thing possibly TWO. The 10-20 block will not have the brass draincock on the front lower left necessary to drain the W30, The other thing is 10-20's made before 28 do not have oil filters or the mounting holes for them.
Everything else will easily transfer and it will work. The bellhousing bolts on the back of the block and the front mount is bolted on the front cover

i have used a w-30 head on the 10-20 and found no diff's in water holes. just the water pump mount in front of head.
