Plowing with a Regular

So I was looking at my newly aqiured Regular (still trying to get a picture to post) and was wondering about plowing with that wide non-adjustable stance. Do you hook up off-center ? Or just run the one wheel on top of the turned land and not in the furrow ? I have a 2-14 IH plow I d like to try her out on someday.

So no trouble with the side pull ? On my H or M I often use the brakes in tough spots to counteract slippage of one wheel or the other, but this Regular only has the one hand-brake for both wheels at the same time. My gut tells me you are right and that is the "correct" way. I checked You-Tube for the hay of it, and there is a guy on there doing it by running the wheel over the turned turned earth, which seems so wrong to me ! lol

little genius plows have an adjustable hitch. so you can hitch in the center of the tractor and have the plow where it is supposed to be.

IVE PULLED 2/16S with my regular and the tractor just played with it.I was plowing and hit a rock break, becaues of steel wheels my tractor slid the front end into the fur.I had a hard time getting it out,I thought I was going to brake it in half.I wish I had brakes on both wheels.

You are correct ! I just looked again at my plow. So you say center the hook on the drawbar and move the plow hitch to offset the difference, and run the wheel in the furrow. That makes sense to me-thanks !

I have heard of a guy or two that would offset the plow hitch and/or the tractor hitch and drive on the land side. They said this was better because the tractor got more even traction and you didn't have to lean all day. Not sure if the side draft was just as bad as leaning all day???

This should help

Well, I got this one with the Regular I just picked up 4 weeks ago. It was purchased new with the Regular in 1928. Everything still works on it, and I am thinking of cleaning it up and painting it to show and use on local plow days.

Notice the setup on the hitch. It is "as found"

There are a LOT of BAD plowing videos on youtube.

Driving on the plowed ground is incorrect. The ground's all loose and fluffy; you can't get any traction!!!

Let me guess, the video of the kid with the MD who thought he was doing a stroke plowing his garden? The reasons it was "working" for him were:

1. He's only pulling 2 bottoms with a tractor that is capable of pulling 3.
2. His plow was broken and just dragging along sideways behind the tractor.

Thats perfect ! Thanks, and thanks Tom for the pic too. I will set it up like that. Nice clear pictures and instructions in the old literature sure is nicer than the mumbo jumbo you see alot today !
