My Farmall M’s carburetor has a crack in the seat for the main jet. I am pretty sure that it is the original Marvel Shebler carburetor. Case says that they will sell me a replacement needle and tube that I think is integrated with the seat. I just bought the tractor, and I don’t know how the crack got there. Has anyone ever experienced this before? Is the tube/seat easy to replace?

First, A Farmall M does not use a Marvel-Schebler carburetor. It is an IH designed and engineered carburetor.

If you could describe the symptoms, we might be able to steer you in the right direction.

It starts and idles really well, but it misses some when you spead the engine up. When you drive it at full throttle on flat hard ground, the engine speed varies from pretty slow to pretty fast. This happens in all gears. Could this be from that crack in the carb or from the govener? We just rebuilt the carburator, but the overhaul kit did not come with the power needle or replacement seat.

Most rebuild kits DO come with the new needle, but NONE come with a new seat. That seat is obsolete, no longer available, and is not user serviceable anyhow.

The speeding up and slowing down is a worn out governor. The stumbling and missing is from a carburetor that either is still dirty, or is improperly adjusted, or both.
