what's a mid 30's mc cormick little genius 3-16
worth?
Ive got one, but no where to use it.
dont have anyway to get the rust off unless i take a wire wheel to it,
or take it to a shop to bead blast it.
Is there mobile setup's that people go out to wherever and do jobs like this?

Wire wheel works ok to get the moldboards back into shape. I use a long handled grill scraper and scrap them off after every pass to get them scouring after that. You can't just run them dirty or they will never scour (in our dirt. I hear sand is a different story)
Of late, people are asking $300+ for a plow. IMO that is nuts. I bought 3 plows in the last ten years and haven't paid over $100 for any of them. On the other hand, if they are complete they are worth money. They don't make ANY wear parts for them anymore so completely functional ones are hard to find. Not sure how steel vs rubber tires effects the price. I like rubber bc you can take them on the road, but steel never gets a flat.
Yes, there are mobile sandblasters. Search CL. When I search sand blaster I see ads for people that do on site blasting.

Kirk,
Using wire wheels and other stuff to shine up old moldboards is not needed and too much work. See if you can go plow for 3 hrs or so in some sandy or light soil.
After you have been in light or sandy soil for some time, your moldboards should be shined up better than any grinding job.
I bought a 2-16" #8 and I plowed three times at 2 hrs each trip...shine like you wouldn't believe.
Saturday I bought a 1-16" trailer plow and this fall I will do the same thing. And will plow deep.

sflem,
$300 too much for plows "is nuts"? Then you say "they don't make ANY wear parts for them anymore so completely functional ones are hard to find." You're arguing with yourself.
Any IH #8 Little Genius trailer plow that is complete and with moldboards showing normal, not excessive, wear and is for sale I will pay up to $250 any day of the week; then, turn around and sell it to someone on a list of guys I know who are looking for them...and I'll make a little money every time.
"Nonfunctional" ones can be bought cheaply for "parts plows" and then recycle the rest of it.
Five yrs ago I paid $375 for a #8 2-16" that was complete and in excellent shape, nothing wrong with it at all. Plowed in light soil to shine up the moldboards. I now pull it in "plow days" and it's now worth every cent I paid.
I just bought a 1-16" #8 for $200 and will enjoy that baby and someday sell it for a nice profit.
By the way, I'll be showing that 2-16" at the RPRU in 11 days. It's a "people magnet". Someone brought it up on the "Implement forum" a couple weeks ago.

Bead or sand blasting will leave a "textured" finish and will be as hard to scour as a rusted one. I'd wire brush it to get the worst rust off and then go plow in some sandy soil if you have it. Hand sandiing, after brushing, in the approximate direction the soil will move with a fine 400 sandpaper I think would also speed the process.

He used the word "redoing" so I bet he's cleaning up and PAINTING the plow.

I cleaned up a 2-14 Little Genius last year with a wire wheel. A twisted-wire cup brush on my 4-1/2" angle grinder, to be exact.

It wasn't that big of a deal. I removed the tailwheel assembly and the drawbar from the plow, and went to town on it.

Took a couple of evenings, and I couldn't get into all the nooks and crannies, but I got anywhere a normal person would look. Then I slathered on 3 coats of Rustoleum IH red with a sponge brush.

If you take the plow completely apart, you can clean it right up.

If you read his other post about if a 300 will pull a 3x16" plow, I figured he wanted to use this plow. He may be cleaning and painting the rest of it too, but if he's going to use it, it will sure do a better job and pull a lot easier if the moldboards scour. 300 is going to have a tough enough time pulling it even if it's polished up.

Ill pull it with this W-6 Ive got.
the 300 was just a thought,, ill keep the 6 and go from there.
I would like to have a 350 UT for around yard stuff though.
I got a small two bottom plow On steel for the JD A.
Id like to find a 660 IH.
they are rally cool looking.
