Farmall MCH (reverse cotton picker)

Hey guys! Wondering how much oil needs to be in the drop housings? I am guessing it should be up to the bottom of the plug on the side (about 4" up). Also, what weight oil should those get? Are their any operators manuals for these tractors or components? I have parts covered but have not really found much otherwise...

Lastly, after selling off my 300 and 400, I have alot of Hytran equivilant Tranny/Hydraulic fluid...any problems with running this in the rear end of my letter series??? Thanks!!!

You should use gear oil in those drop housing and tranny/rear end on letter series tractors, 80-90 or 85-140.

I know the manuals say SAE80 but like I said, I have a bunch of leftover universal trans/hydraulic fluid...will it hurt anything to run in the tranny of a letter series?

IMO you can run hytran in a letter series. Someguys say you can/should only run it in the TA tractors. They didn't change a darn thing from the SM to the SMTA with the exception of the TA. So why can I run it in the SMTA and not the SM??? Also, pull apart the rear end of your (former) 400 and a SMTA. There are a ton of parts in there that will interchange. Nobody has ever given a reason on the forum, with the exception of "you only run hytran in TA tractors." I have never seen a reason to back it up. ie oil shear, viscosity problems, what bearing will fail first due to lack of lube, etc
