changing tire size

I have a farmall 450 with 15.5x38 tires on it. I have a chance to buy a set of 15.5x34s on 9 bolt rims. I have 9 bolt adapters. I dont farm. only use the tractor for snow removal. and small jobs around the yard.and one tractor pull in the summer. what differance if any will I have?

thanks Howard

It will make it low in the rear and slow all gear speeds. IH knew what they were doing with 38 inch rims. I would not do it, but I am not into pulling, either.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the 34" tires have a taller sidewall, so they stand up nearly as tall as a 38"?

The only disadvantage I can see is that the 9 bolt rims are lighter in weight than the original cast center/steel rim combination and traction MIGHT become an issue.

you will have some speed reduction-but not a lot.you will have more torque to the ground on a HARD pull. However, you may "loose ground" at a tractor pull due to a smaller foot print-unless you weight it(fluid/cast-or both)to compensate.

I'd try and get you kicked out if you pulled with my club. Our rules state tin rims may only be used if they came that way from the factory.
