I'm an old guy and would like to know what a Haybine does? When I was on the farm back in the 50's and 60's we cut then raked and finally bailed our hay. I get the impression that the Haybine cuts , presses the hay through a set of rollers and then forms a windrow for bailing??
Thanks for the education

You pretty much nailed it. "Haybine" is a trademark owned by New Holland for their mower/ conditioner machines but like Skidoo and Jello it has become a generic term for all makes.

The Haybine and other hay conditioners really change the way hay is put up now days. My poor old bar mower only gets used to mow weed around the farm and then not to often.

Although it is a New Holland label, I also think it's a regional term applied to pull type swathers. My dad in Iowa always called his swather (a New Idea brand) a haybine, but I never heard them called that here in Kansas... they were always just a "pull type swather". Of course Hesston was always a big seller here, and now when you drive through the town of Hesston, you see their equipment with several colors and brand names on them being loaded on trucks.

The combine the cutter and conditioner into one unit. We called them haybine and diskbine back in PA. Out here they seem to get called a swather.
