If you use an elec switch, to get the most bang for the buck and utilize all the advantages one has to offer, I suggest you match it with a high energy coil (that suits the switches current rating) also. Some (but NOT necessary) run a wider spark plug gap and IF you do that you need to use good quality plug wires and cap n rotor etc. If the plug gap isnt increased over stock, however, there shouldnt be any extra wire or HV arcing type problems.

They are NOT a cure all for other problems and probably dont raise HP much if any at all, but most report improved starting and idleing characteristics.

HOWEVER if they crap out youre screwed versus being able to file a set of points to get back to the shed.

BE SURE AND USE CORRECT POLARITY

It just doesnt seem they are of the quality and durability of modern high voltage high energy automotive ignition systems buttttttttttttt much of that has to with them ALSO no longer using distributors which our old tractor hybrid systems must still use.

Your tractor your choice, some like them others dont, they have advantages AS LONG AS THEY ARE WORKING.

Like Fox News, We report, you decide......

well i am old and old fashioned just give me a set of points any day and if there is a problem i can either file them or replace them . I can change points every year till i am worm food and get off cheaper . Tried them one time and ended up with egg on my face . three quarters or the way down the pulling track they failed and ended up getting hit by the sled . Went back to the old points and never looked back.

I have converted 2 tractors with the ei, I have found it to work great. I am sure others have had different experiences but I would do the conversion again in a heartbeat.

I agree, when they work they work great.

It's after ya walk back to the yard from 2 miles away about 3 times that ya start getting a little discouraged. :>)

And, they WILL fail. Just a question of when. :>(

I have converted all 3 of our IH tractors to electronic ignition and think it works great. Haven't cleaned/gapped/replaced points/condensers in years.
