I am wandering if it is allowable and will not hurt anything to move the TA lever from high to low or vise versa when clutch is disengaged and tractor setting at a stand still? I have not done this but sure would be nice to start off in low sometimes baling hay and then move to high.

Yep, normal operatiion.

That stick is on there to "use". Die-hard red guys will tell you, "Use it, or loose it". :>)

I definitely use it when rolling but didn't want to screw it up.
Hey, I saw your pictures of your 10 with the disk with work cloths on and across the hood looks about same paint condition as mine. I've always been a little ashamed of my not-so-pretty 10 and haven't posted a picture for that fact.

Dont be ashamed of your hardworking friend! He has every right to be a little faded and dirty.lets see a picture!(you should see some of mine!)

When you shift it,do not move the lever slow-good way to shorten its life.shift fast-like your are p!$$ed off.those TA clutches cannot take much/any slippage thet occures durring shifting.

As the others said. No issue.
The TA in a 1066 is put in direct drive with a hydraulic clutch, and in reduction by a sprague (one way) clutch and a locking hydraulic clutch.
No gears slide or engage, so it would be equal to shifting an automatic trans between L and D while stopped. Jim

I probably plowed 5k acres with ih tractors when I was a kid. My dad's firm instructions ya pull the torque back, ya throw the torque forward, do not back that throttle off.

When the clutch is disengaged moving the TA lever will have no affect on the TA. The TA is hydraulically controlled and when the clutch is disengaged the TA dump vale is pulled out, dumping all pressure to both TA clutch packs. Shifting the TA under this circumstance only determines which clutch pack will be pressurized when the clutch pedal is released.

(quoted from post at 01:14:28 06/09/11) how about on the older tractors like a 460? I'm assuming i should be moving when shifting it?

Pretty much the same thing. Once you push in the clutch pedal it releases the TA clutch the same as if you pull the lever back. If you go from TA to direct with the clutch depressed the TA clutch still will not engage until you start to engage the main clutch.
