Troubles second day of haying season

Brother was swathing along with my 450 Farmall and all of a sudden he could not steer it. Up at the gear box on front end, the splines are wore off the shaft. Need some ideas on how to fix it? Need this tractor pretty bad right now.

From the parts lookup page at caseih.com, the collar on the shaft could be split with a hacksaw to the length of the insertion, then drill a hole to allow pinching the collar onto the remaining splines using a bolt and nut (grade 8). Jim
 
Can't help you but i know the feeling! 10 acres of hay ready to be bailed and tractor stops moving and dies and of course rain is about 4 hours away most every time! lol
