acquired a tractor from my friend who passed away monday. its a B-275 diesel. Any known problems with these. This one was painted yellow from the factory, as it was used by a local school before his father bought it. still has the original paint, front tires, gauges. Pretty much everything except the rear tires, and i need to scavenge his place for the drawbar.

Where can I get brakes for it?
How many were made?
How many were brought to the US?
Anything they are not good for, or better then others?

You may want to repost asking as a topic Questions on a B-275, also in tractor talk.

From what I saw there was an IH B 275 built in England in the 1960s. About 53000 were manufactured.

Pat,

The B275 was the first IHC built utility tractor which was imported in 59, 60, and 61. it was followed by the B414 which continued the same basic design and most components in 62, 63, 64, 65, and a few in 66, and 67. In 1965 IH begain producing the American made I424 in Louisville which continued the same design using some British and some American parts for 65, 66, and 67 and then in 68 the final version of this same basic tractor made in America was the I444 in 68, 69, 70, and 71. Certain models of the same basic tractor are still being built today by Mahandra in India. A large portion of the parts for the B275, B414, I424, and I444 will interchange so parts are not a problem. (If your parts source can't find a listing for B275 or B414 check parts for I424 or I444). In Nebraska test 733 the B275D had 144 cu in, 30.76 dbhp, and 32.88 ptohp. The B414D increased the cubic inches to 154 by increasing the bore from 3 3/8 to 3 1/2 inches which increased the Nebraska test #827 to 32.57 dbhp and the pto hp to 35.99. The I424D also has 154 cu in but tested Nebraska test #911 32.87 dbhp and 36.91 ptohp. The I444D did not receive a new Nebraska test and retained the 424 hp ratings.

Thanks harold.

To you know for sure if the B414 I424 or I444 brakes will interchange?

Pat, before you get crazy looking for cross references, why don't you see if you can get brakes at the CaseIH dealer? Many of the common wear parts for these old tractors are still available, amazingly enough!

Unforunitly, I have NO IH dealer anywhere around me. Last time I
went to one was a little over an hour away maybe an hour and a
half, and the dealer locator thing on their website wont work for me

Hi, having many years experience on B414D,434,384 brakes, I have never replaced a brake disk even though our B414D had well over 10,000 Hrs on it.
The problem was always dirty ramps and rollers and the brake disks would become glazed and shinny. I would cleanup up ramps and rollers, take a wire brush and roughen up the brake disks. Good for another year.

I took them apart last year, and they are pretty whooped. I would guess maybe a 1/32 above the ridges. Alot of this tractors life was hauling a 100 gallon water tank and sometimes stoping it on some steep hills. we had the plates resurfaced back to new spec by a friend. Couldn't find disks at the time and needed the tractor so threw it back together

Hi Pat-CT, I just Googled B275 brakes and had several hits including Australian ebay that had a brake relining kit for B-275. I don't know if B-275 was like late model B414s that had the 6 1/2" Brake disks vs the old 5 3/8" disks. Measure yours first or have s/n for dealer. When you replace the new disks make sure the disks fit inside the old ridges worn on the drum and diff case. On neighbours tractor, I had to grind down outer edge of disk to fit within worn drums otherwise disk just rode on the outer ridge of drum and diff case.
