More power for Farmall H

Might be cheaper just to buy an M,a nd then you'd have one of each. HP boost=money in my limited experience.

(quoted from post at 14:26:32 06/07/11) My 1949 Farmall H has about 30 HP now. I would like to get about 35 or 40 HP.

From the factory, your H was rated at 26 p.t.o. horsepower. The 30 horsepower you have now is most likely the result of someone installing an overbore kit in the engine. Careful tuning, valve adjustments, etc. might get you that extra 5 horsepower you want. If you want to go beyond the 35 horsepower, you're going to have to spend some money.

You may be able to tune the engine to run E85 and get another 2 horsepower. If you do that, you will be able to increase your compression for even more power.

How will you get more horsepower from running E85 when it has less BTU's per gallon? The engines running that are generally derated.

At 30hp,an H is at its peak.to get more, you need to spend some serious MONEY-turbo it;custombuld an engine;etc.you would be better off just buy a bigger tractor. Are you makeing a "puller"?

Sounds like you basically want a 350 engine in your H. This engine had a larger bore and ran faster than the H. Probably some other tweaks as well. According to the Nebraska test they had right at 40hp on the belt from the factory.

E85 is 105 octane. You can safely increase the compression and also the ignition timing advance.

E85 a type of alcohol fuel. This means that higher octane and lower BTUs will be present in the fuel. However, more energy available in alcohol fuels (such as E85) can be put to useable work. Besides this advantage, E85 has an octane rating of approximately 109. This will allow Mark to build an engine with a much higher compression ratio.

If you want more HP you bore and stroke it. If you aren't trying to pull it, then why bother. For what that would cost go buy an M.

I put a C-175 (farmall 350) block in my H using the C-152 head and valves etc. and now shes got a solid 40 hp. I would be easier just to buy a M and go from there.

deck the head 125 thousands to up the compression still will be regular fuel and put on dyno to adjust timeing and carb prolly get a few hp there also can bump up the rps a touch if needed all can be done for min money
