Farmall B Cultivision (restored) - Need to find out year

We just purchased a fully restored Farmall B Cultivision tractor. We are needing to find out the year of the tractor - the Serial number was lost or whatever when it was restored. I do have some casting numbers:
8638 DC
11.28.6
6342-DH (which I saw on aother site was linked to a serial number FABN 131700 - which was a 1939)
The tractor does have 2 tires on the front, but still a tricyle front-end - not a wide front. The seat is offset to the right.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is the serial # plate missing from the RH side of the LH seat support... that's where the serial # would be. If you find it, look it up at the LH side of this page under "Research and Info".

6342-DH and 8638 DC are CASTING numbers, which simply identify the parts they are found on.

As 11.28.6, are you "sure that the "6" isn't and alphabetical character.... as the casting date codes end in a LETTER to ID the year...

IH Casting Date Codes
1931 - A 1950 - T 1968 - P
1932 - B 1951 - U & W 1969 - R
1933 - C 1952 - X 1970 - S
1934 - D 1953 - Y 1971 - T
1935 - E 1954 - Z 1972 - U
1936 - F 1955 - A 1973 - W
1937 - G 1956 - B 1974 - X
1938 - H 1957 - C 1975 - Y
1939 - I 1958 - D 1976 - A
1940 - J 1959 - E 1977 - C
1941 - K 1960 - F 1978 - D
1942 - L 1961 - G 1979 - E
1943 - M 1962 - H 1981 - G
1945 - O 1964 - K 1982 - H
1946 - P 1965 - L 1983 - J
1947 - Q 1966 - M 1984 - K
1948 - R 1967 - N 1985 - L
1949 - S
For example, "10 5 Q" would be October 5 1947.

As Bob has said in the post below, you may be misreading the last letter in the casting code. 11*28*Q would be November 28, 1947. Every major casting will have those style codes. Not every casting date will match the same date, but when you have found enough of them you will have a rough idea of the assembly period. The castings were cast several months prior to assembly. The B production ran from 1939 to 1947, when it was replaced by the Farmall C. So you should be looking for letter codes for those years. On the right hand side of the front of engine block, above number 1 spark plug there is a flat spot machined into the block. It is several inches long, and about 3/8 inch tall. There you will find a serial number that may match the original serial plate under the seat, that is, if it is the original engine. I think the early B's had single front wheel, while the latter ones had two. I have a 1947 B, my casting codes all end in Q.
Best Regards,
Charlie

131700 was 1945, 1317 was 1939. Engine serial matches the chassis serial up to 201000.

Single fronts and narrow fronts were interchangeable. NF was standard if a SF was not specified.

There was no I-H takeover. The Cultivision was added to try and avoid a lawsuit with Allis Chalmers over the tourque tube which I-H copied from Allis. It didnt work and I-H had to pay.
