[b:36240051b0]I've got the rear end of my M just about ready to replace the axle housing gaskets, all the bolts are out of the trans cover (finally), and the belt pulley gearbox is off... just wondering whats the best way to pick up the trans cover? I was thinking of putting an eye bolt in the large bolt hole for the steering tower and hoisting it up that way...

how do you guys do it? thanks for the help![/b:36240051b0]

i did mine with 2 people wasnt that heavy just kinda bulky i think it would be easier with two people than with a hoist just my opinion on it ive never tried to use a hoist

when you put it together make sure the shifter forks are in the correct spot

All you need to do is cut thru the gasket at the top work it into position use cement and presto your done no need to remove the tranny cover and all that extra work.

I used the bolt holes for the steering column and the seat to lift mine. You minht have to pry up on it a little to break it loose after sitting for all these years.
Be sure to put a 4x4 or 6x6 under it BEFORE you stick your hands in to check on the gears.

Im going to be completely removing it and setting it aside so I can go check through my trans for missing teeth, etc etc. I'll either be using the chain hoist in the shop or an engine hoist to remove it and the axle housings.
