Ive been researching this alot and seen alot of discussion but no clear answer, is it possible to have the transmission worked to get a very low 1st gear? or does anyone know where I could buy a set?

Unfortunately, no.

The 9 speed INCREASES ground speed by 40%(?) in gears 1 thru 4 (5th gear is unaffected). It also increases PTO and belly pump RPM by the same amount when engaged.

They made a low low first for the H...only time a straight H has vere beat My Super C in div I was an H with that set up. I don't know where you would find one, but they are around. I would call Dick Stoyell (315) 497-3745. He is in Upstate, NY sells IH parts has lotsa parts tractors. If he doesn't have one, my bet is he knows where ther is one.

The ground speeds were between 4th and fifth but you have low overdrive the 2nd overdrive and so on. Very handy for rotary hoeing and pulling wagons to asnd from field and so forth you will lose a bunch of power in ODso they are not for heavy work. Farming has changed bunches we dont harrow and use the rotary hoes and lots of other tasks like yesteryear. The 5-700 bu and up wagons are not for the H maybe empty when they weigh 8-9000 lbs empty.

I think there was an option for a slow 1st gear for both the H and M. You have to change a bunch of gears and the counter shaft to do it. For the low gear, the counter shaft gear is cut into the shaft since the gear is so much smaller and can't be cut and fit on the shaft. I believe the 2nd gear has to be changed too, as in normal configuration, the 1st and 2nd countershaft gears are one piece. I think the sets to do this are around, but not common. Some may be in orchard tractors or the Industrial standard tractors.

Yes, they made H"s & M"s, with a picker gear 1st gear, you could tell me the serial number suffix code. I have an H with an X1F, as in high speed 4th gear, I also wouldn"t mind finding a picker gear H but haven"t been that lucky.

The low-low gear would be the same as the low-low in an O-4. Typically when this attachment was installed in an H you would have the heavy cast front wheels on them. This helped keep the front end down as the gearing would pull the front end up.

Though 40% may be in there some where, the first gear position ran some what faster than 4th gear. All of them between 4th and direct. Jim
