Farmall A/B fan trouble

Well I tried to check out the BA I built last fall. Was running it and it started to over heat. Checked the coolant and it was low so fired it up and started to fill the radiator. Noticed smoke coming from under the hood and found the fan had locked up. So now the question can you change the fan on a A/B engine with out pulling all sorts to stuff off like the radiator etc
Thanks

You can probably remove it without removing the radiator, but why? All you have to do is remove the grill, radiator and shroud, the rest is easy. Compared to the H/M the radiator removal is simple. Get a sealed bearing fan. I have them on 2 C's and a Super A.

Well I might get a sealed bearing fan if I didn't have 2 other fans here off the parts machines. As for why I do not want to pull the radiator I just put some stop leak in the system because the radiator had a small leak and do not want to waste the $8 it cost for the stuff plus a trip to town

Those fans may last for years, but the problem is they can quit any time. Several years ago I refurbushed a C including servicing the fan. Started it after 4-5 months of restoring, ran ok, went in the house for a drink, came back and antifreeze all over the place. On another C, all I did was change the antifreeze, started it, and the fan froze after about 2 minutes while I was looking at it. I suppose the moral is, never change antifreeze. Both were bought at auction, I did not check the oil in the fan in the second one. If you don't pull the radiator you will find the shroud and the radiator in the way. As you know, nothing worse than trying to fix something you can't really get to easily.

You said fan locked up . Does it have a water pump or not. If it does'nt have a water pump loosen the generator.then look at the back of fan pulleys there is a place to put a wrench to remove it. It might help to remove the hood.

I do plan to remove the alternator and the braces for the radiator and then see if it will pull out. I also took the 2 spare fans opened them up and oiled/greased them so maybe I'll get lucky and the one I install might last for a bit
