I picked up a 52 Super C today for 1 more project. This will be my 3rd, all with FH. I now have one for plowing and discing, 1 set up to cultivate and side dress and the 3rd specifically to plant/fertilize. I know one will do it all but this way I don't have to change equipment, just jump on and start it up.

Any way I bought it non running and owner told me the clutch was out. I bought it right, pd up and got it started in the sellers driveway. It is not the clutch but further back. It's completely silent when depressing clutch, no noise from clutch or trans. I can see the trans shaft turning through the inspection cover. I'm hoping it's just the woodruff key sheared or missing. This is the tractor I previously posted about with the split torque tube from a later model. I'm thinking that may have something to do with it.

The question is can I split at the trans/torque tube without having to completely tear down the whole tractor?

I do have all the appropriate support blocks, jacks, cherry picker, A frame hoist etc

Yes i have split them there i used a set of wheels so i could roll it apart. After getting is apart a ffew inches then you can get the u-joint apart a lot of work but made easier with good stands. good luck

Last year the bolts that join the two shaft flanges right in front of the trannt loosened and it came apart. Had to split it back there though, not between the engine and tranny.

Yes, you can split it in front of the transmission. It's not as much trouble as splitting at the clutch. Make sure you don't disengage the clutch while you have it split so you will be able to get the shaft back through the splines in the clutch plate. When you split, you can separate it enough so you can get to the coupling in the shaft and take it apart. then you can roll the rear part back. when you do this, the back part is nearly balanced, so it just takes a shop lift of some sort to steady it as you roll it back on it's own wheels. Make sure the front part is well supported so it does not tip over.
