steering on 856

We are having a come and go problem with the power steering on an 856. It will lag when first started then go to working in about a minute. This happens sometimes and then sometimes not. Today went to spread fertilizer and wouldn't steer so changed tractors. Went out to put in shed, to check it out further, and eventually went to working by the time I got to the shed. I pulled the flow control valve out. It has some wear on the valve body. The pressure is 2000PSI at rated speed as called for. I question the flow control valve. Any better ideas?

Sounds like the MCV pump is worn and/or losses prime sucking air around the shaft seal. Plugged hyd filter? Water in hyd oil?

We changed the oil and filter. If it is sucking air or losing prime why would it work right away and sometimes not? Also I had the flow control valve out and back in and it worked for a couple of months with no issues then back again. Will do this with oil over full also.

Overfill the hytran by 5 gallons and it will work fine. There is a seal or oring (crs) that is leaking in the suction line. Tractor has to be split to replace the seal. Just try this. It will probably work. Wayne

Alright thanks for the replies. I will get back to everybody when it is fixed. I have tried all the above suggestions except the pump change. Dad picked up a pump today so will try that when we get a rain. Got 40 acres to plant and will be done.
