Farmall A vs Super A

Are there any visual differences besides hydraulics between an A and a Super A. Went today to look at a couple of listed Farmall A's for an auction tomorrow and one of them had the super A hydraulics. The decal was too faded to see if it said super A. Serial number tag was in rough shape but it looked like the serial number was 4 digits. Did the super A's start at the beginning for serial number or continue on from the regular A. I'm thinking the tractor is a super A. The other A was in rougher shape and had a serial number in the 198000 range. Any idea what year that would be near?

Look on the left side and then serial numbers and look the numbers up that way you can writ down what number starts what year and have a better idea what they are

The Super A's serial numbers started at 250000. Hal
If you can't find the SN look for a flat machined surface on the engine block below No1 sparkplug. I will be covered with paint and dirt
and should have a number stamped into the block.

The Farmall Super A numbers start at 250000, there was a gap from the last of the Farmall A. The only noticeable differences are the clutch to transmission casting has the flat top to take the Touch Control unit, the engine has the pad under the magneto (distributor) to take the hydraulic pump and the steering wheel support and instrument panel is different'

The battery box is different, the fenders are different (much heavier on a Super A), the torque tube is different and a few other subtle differences.

Hydraulics is the biggest, most visible difference.

If it has hydraulic lifts it is a Super A period. To accommodate the hydraulic package under the gas tank the tank had to be raised to make room which changed the hood and front grill/radiator slightly. The oil lines from the oil pump at the front of the distributor to the hydraulic package impinged on the oil filter case so the oil filter for the Super A was smaller. The front cultivator gang hook up was different. The SA had a built in lift rocker arm attached to the rear finders that was heaver built than the hand lift rocker arm for the A. The SA used the same basic C-113 engine to begin with but it also had minor changes that made it more efficient. Some other differences are listed in other post but I am sure there are more that have not been mentioned.
