old style reproduction ihc guage

I bought a reproduction IHC oil guage for my 1941 04 McCormick-Deering, on the back where you hook the oil line was a tiny screw with a pin hole in it. what is this screw and what does it do, i hooked the oil line to it and fired it up and it pegged the guage out.am i supposed to take that screw out and why is it in there

Chris, Some of the old style gauges where for the F series low oil pressure. Maybe this is what you got. I have never played with any screw on a gauge. oldiron29

It limits the amount of oil that can reach the gauge.

Pressure is pressure no matter the size of the hole, so removing the screw won't change the pressure reading.

So, you've either got a blocked oil passage in the engine, or the wrong gauge. Best to not run the engine until you know for sure. Pick up a test gauge at Harbor Freight or an auto parts store and find out for sure what your tractor's oil pressure is.

In addition, there are different guages for different tractors.

the letter series have a different pressure range that the F series tractors. Additionally, the F-12 and the F-14 have a different pressure range than the F-20, Regular, and F-30 tractors.

so, it is important that you get the correct part # guage for the application you are using. A guage for an F-20 will peg at max if put on a letter series tractor or F-12/14.

The O4, W4 and H use the same engine. You need a gauge that will register at least 75 lbs, you have the wrong gauge. The correct number will be on www.caseih.com if you don't have a parts book.

i ordered the guage from All States Ag parts it specifically said it was for a model o4 the part number was 108049. I know it doesnt have a blocked passage it had a guage in it before that worked fine it just wasnt an original look a like. it carried about 40 pounds on that guage

The IH number for the gauge you want is 43987DB. 19 inch lead, IH is within the C.

I take that back, for an oil gauge IH only shows the newest number, 41934DB, does not have the C. You want 43987DB as noted above.

Chris, as noted by CNKS the gauge you want for your tractor is 43987DB with the proper logo but it is also a zone type one without actual oil pressure no's. OEM tractor parts shows them in their catalog. It should be easy to obtain the correct one for your tractor, Hal.

just wanted to tell all you guys thanks for the help.ends up the guage that they sent me was for a F-12 or F-14 instead the O4 that was advertised. your info with the guage numbers solved the mystery.Im glad we can all chat and help each othr so once again thanks to all of you i consider us friends that help each other.
