M steering worm gear

I seem to remember talk of a specific year/serial number that they went to the half steering worm gear on top of the bolster versus the full. I have a 50 M and was hoping I would have the luck of being able to just flip the gear. Anyone know?

The worm is on the horizontal shaft. The sector is on the vertical. one easy way to tell is to remove the long bolt in the lower bolster flange that controls the steering limit, and see if it turns 360.
If it stops turning just after going beyond the limit, it is 1/2 sector. If it turns 360 it is a full circle gear. Turn the wheels back to engage the sector if it a 1/2 gear.
Do not drive it like this!! Jim

IH did not list serial break, take out stop bolt or remove grill & take cover off to see gear, you cant just flip it over because it has a taper in spline bore.
