You went to get it (correct!!?)
Your post is a little unclear as to whether the price is 1000, or the hope is to buy it for an offer of 1000. But that would be a great starting point and you might expect 1500 to be in the game. Jim

Post was perfectly clear to me...

He means to offer $1000 for it.

If it's sitting there now, there is no way it will sell for $1000. Otherwise, it would be gone.

Offering $1000 is a good way to make an old man very very mad. If he doesn't run you off his property on the northbound end of a northbound double-barrel shotgun, count yourself lucky.

It's not that the tractor is worth more. That tractor represents his life's work. To you it's just a thing, but he doesn't share your view.

A nonrunning Super H with poor tires but decent sheet metal for $1000? I think its too high, if the farmer thinks its worth more he's fooling himself.

I would jump on it too ! I sold a 1954 SH on Ebay in 2007 for 2650.00. Non running, bad tires and only so - so sheetmetal. I was very suprised and pleased to get that much, and I do realise that the economy is different now , but I think that tractor is worth every penny of 1000.00, and probably alot more. Just my opinion from Minnesota area.

I must be missing something but I see nothing about tractor being owned by old farmer or what the asking price is.

If you can buy a 54 super h for less than $2000, you better getter done. One sold at a aution here last fall for $3700, It run with a big miss in engine. Not fancy at all.

You might want to find out if it is even for sale before making any plans to buy it. My guess is that since it was hidden behind a shed, it is NOT for sale.
