Ice on the carb of my 656

When I have my 65' IH Farmall 656 running, the carb starts to ice up after it warms up. The tractor runs fine. What could be causing this? Thanks for the help. Josh Day

Cause is high humidity resulting in moisture condensation on the (cold) throttle body.

It's completely normal under certain conditions of temperature/humidity.

The venturi in the carb restricts the fuel/air passage then expands quickly on the manifold side. This accelerates the flow of air, then when it suddenly is no longer constricted on the opposite side of the venturi, the fuel vaporizes. It takes heat to vaporize the fuel, and subsequently the upper part of the carb, where the venturi expands, cools down as fuel evaporates, as heat is being drawn from the carb/venturi body........hence the condensation, and finally ice. Normal operation of that type of carb.

If it did not do that then you would have a problem. But since it does then things are working just as they should be doing. A car or truck would do the same thing but they have a tube going form the exhaust manifold into the carb air cleaner so warm air goes in and that in turn stops the icing. So yes I am saying it is normal and the way a carb works. Just like it you compress air the air gets hotter and when you let the air out if you do so fast enough you can cause water to turn to ice from decompression of the air
