what is the difference in a 6pad clutch plate and a 4 pad clutch plate? i have to change the clutch in a 454 that i have.

Hi, we always installed the 6 pad clutch from 684 in 454 and 495. It all depends how you use your 454. If there is no front end loader and light work then a 4 pad clutch would be good.

When we had our "sick of it seven four" way back in the 1970"s one of the fitters that worked for The local IH dealer told me that whenever they were called out to replace a clutch they always fitted the 6 pad plate if possible, whichever model tractor they were working on.

thanks for the advice. i rebuilt the engine about 4yrs ago and install a new clutch and pressure plate at that time, it is gone now. it does have a loader on it. i use it handling rd bales of hay, i like it for it size, easy to move and works in tight places.
