I was using my IH 1586 on a JD 30 ft field cult when it stopped dead in the field. The motor runs fine, all hydrolics work fine. I can put it in any gear and it will not move including reserse. The TA can be on or off still no moving it on its own. Whats should I look for? A friend of mine who helped me pull it home thaught that the clutch pedal pushed a little to easly and thaught the clutch was out. Today I hooked a chain on it with my Ford 545 loader tractor and pulled the 1586 ahead when the tractor was in park. I had the RPM very low, in first gear in the 545 when I pulled wanting not to hurt anything else in the 1586. The 1586 pulled very easly ahead. the tractor motor was not running. The person in the 1586 said he could here a light ticking sound when I pulled it. So instead of a bad clutch maybe I have a bad transmission. Or my clutch is out and I took out my parking gear pulling it? OH Well. Any Ideas. Thank you and have a great day.

[ i would say you sheared the splines in your clutch disk as hyd are run off pressure plate. not sure whay you would of pulled it in park but you could of massed the park powl up or not

Open up the hydraulic filter. If it is full on steel scraps chances are something let loose in the rear end.

If the park brake was working before I don't think you would have moved that easily with the other tractor unless something has let loose in the rear end. If it was slipping the park brake while pulling it you would have heard loud clicking as the park paw was jumping teeth, if everything in the rear end was where it belonged.

Let us know what you find.

There are two ways to go:

1. Junk the tractor because you think the repairs will be too expensive.

2. Let the mechanics pull it apart and figure out what's wrong.

X-ray vision only exists in movies and comic books. Without it there's only one way to really know what's wrong with the tractor, and that's to take it apart. "Just stopped moving" could be any of a few hundred different problems.

Just for what you are saying my guess is that you have the planetary gears out one one of the axels. One way or the other repairs will be expensive and hard to do yourself without a well equiped shop. Sorry to hear about your bad luck.

Hi Back in the day when I was running my shop it was always that ? So it was standard practice to remove the cover on the third arm for inspection youcan see the diff have some one run the tractor the see if the diff turns if it does then jack up one side at a time and turn the wheels by hand and listen they turn hard if diff doesn't turn then it could be clutch hub you can drop the bottom cover from the ta housing to see if any thing turns. That is one thing about IH tactors is you can take a lot of covers off to see what is wrong. One more thing run a magnet through the oil in the trans case to look for clues. good luck on your quest. Bob

Broken rear diff is my guess. All hydralics still work and the most important clue is that the Park doesn t hold, that makes me think diff broke. Good luck !
