Gas in Radiator

Have a 560 gas Farmall and mistakenly put gas in the radiator. Looking for advice as to what to do now.

flush it out very well, you can use vinegar or a off the shelf radiator cleaner/flusher. I would not panic, a good flush and youll be good to go.

Not a big deal - it's happened to me several times when others have used my tractors. It caused no damage.

Fix is easy. Simply run the engine until it's warm then shut it down and drain the cooling system. Leave the drains open and the radiator cap off overnight - what little gas is left in the system will evaporate.

Refill the system once with fresh water, drain again then refill with coolant and you'll be good to go!

Mine were from "city boys" (non-farm kids) fueling the tractors at the end of the day.

When a kid tells me "it ran all day and took less than a gallon!" I know there's gonna be a problem. (Apparently the cap most conveniently reached - the radiator cap on Farmalls - looks like the gas filler to these guys!)

I'm with Delta, how do you do that on a Farmall/IH!?! It is easy to do on the 4020 type tractors since the caps are backwards of the normal. For one thing one is a pressure cap and the other is a gas cap! I know...city kids... I shouldn't talk, I was all confused because my bosses 986 (or something like that) wouldn't start. I was hitting the ether button instead of the starter...In my defense, neither said what they did.

Or, how many of us have tried and tried, even attempted to pull start a tractor, just to find out you forgot to turn the fuel on...........

ps. you did'nt hurt anything. Drain it out, rinse it out, and refill. Not sure if you ran it that way, but it wouldn't be the best for the O rings on the sleeves. And , if you did run it, likely that it boiled off.

In the end, flush it out and move on. Probably no harm at all.

Gas is gonna be on top, so stick a garden hose in the radiator and very SLOWLY "overfill" it until that gasoline is out.

Then completely flush down the outside of the tractor before you start it.

There you go again Allen. Always taking the easy way out!
