230 shutting off

I have a 230 that I purchased during the winter. It runs real good but was shutting off. At first I thought it was dirt in the fuel but found out the cap wasn't venting. Put a new cap on thought the problem was fixed. Loaded it for a pull friday and it wouldn't start. Finally it started and I just thought it flooded. Then saturday after the second pull it just quit. Started up but had to play with the choke to keep it running and sometimes that didn't help. When I finally got it off the track and parked it sat for a few minutes and started up and ran fine to load on the trailer. I'm trying to figure out if its fuel or electical. Thanks for the help Ed

When it quits running check for fire to your plugs asap before it cools. If you have good fire to your plugs its probably a fuel issue. Pull the gas line at the carburetor and see if there's a full stream of gas from the tank. If that looks ok remove the tube fitting where your gas line connects and look for a screen that may be plugged. If the screen is clean you probably need to pull the carburetor and soak it in carb cleaner after disassembly and blow out the jets with air. Check the float setting too to make sure it's set at the right height. Hal
