Have an 884 row crop that I purchased a while back- at first it wasn't charging- had alternator checked and it was fine- found it was the indicator light that was blown- replaced and everything was fine- now the indicator light isn't coming on- I checked and bulb is good and it is getting power from the key switch and tractor is not charging. What do I need to check for now?

thanks

Assuming a Delco alternator with 3 wires. Check for 12-volts [battery voltage] at #2 terminal. Check for~ 9-10 volts at #1 terminal with ign on. Use an analog meter if possible.
If no reading at #1, check for open circuit from switch through lite to #1 terminal. Try shorting between large terminal on rear of alt. & #1 momentarily. If voltage picks up, alt. is good yet.
If voltage remains low, check diode trio, rectifier bank, or brushes.

The IND lead (small wire) when removed from the alternator and grounded should make the dash lamp come on when the key switch is in run position..
The fat leads should be connected straight back to the battery (usually at the starter terminal)
The black plug on the back of the alternator can give trouble and can be dispensed with and spade terminals pluged straight into the back of the alternator
