Clutch question F-20 and Regular

Since the clutch is toast in the regular, I will be looking for a new complete clutch and clutch shaft. My gut tells me that an F-20 is the same clutch.

The regular is a 1928. will any year clutch from an F-20 work? Alot more F-20's around than regulars in my area.

Don't know much about a regular, but I believe an F20 uses the same clutch disc as a Farmall M, and the pressure plate can be rebuilt.

39,404 serial number is when the Regular switched
from the multiple disc clutch to the F20 single
plate style. BUT.. If you change the flywheel you
can still use the single plate clutch in the early
Regular. Let me know if you need something. I have
those parts in stock.

Tom,I think only the very early one may have been different. Must all the F-20 and Regular parts where interchangeable. If you got it home we need more pictures. oldiron29

Not at home right now. I did get the clutch cover off, as posted in my other thread. took 2 pecks of mouse nest out, and the reason the egnine wouldn't turn over was the crap had rusted the flywheel to the bottom of the clutch housing. got that cleaned out and everything turns over real nice.

I can't remember the exact serial number off the top of my head, but I know it was made probably around November 1928, so will be close on the serial number switch over.

cowman, I will send you an email, as I will need the clutch, pressure plate, and shaft. The splines are really worn where the coupler yoke goes on, so might as well replace that too. do you have both types of clutches in stock? I really don't want to pull the flywheel unless I absolutely have to. I think I can dress the existing one up a bit after I get the clutch off.

This one is going to be just for show, and won't be doing any heavy work, might pull a wagon or run a buzz saw from the belt.

Oldiron29, I 'll post more pics tomorrow when I get home.

Tom,My 28 regular has the old type of clutch, which I like better,I had my plates relined and they were very reasonable,The old type clutch has a transmission break that stops your gear movement before shifting and will actually act as a brake to stop your tractor

Thanks for the feedback Jimmy. Just got back to the house, and my serial number is QC 44396, Nov 1928. Looks like this one has the new style clutch.

With that said, one from an F-20 would work then, correct?
