Less than a month ago an employee of mine had an old car stolen out of the parking lot of his apartment. It probably had the appearance that it had been abondoned, so thieves likely thought no one would say anything when it disappeared. It was recovered the next day at a local scrap yard, and he ended up paying tow and storage to give it to a family member who wanted the engine out ot it. There are a lot of people out there trying to get them for nothing even to the point ot stealing them to sell for scrap. I recall 12 years ago I needed to get rid of an old car, and most scrap yards wanted me to pay them to come and get it. I finally find someone to take if if I gave it to them. Now it would disappear by itself.

Your buyer is trash talking. While scrap is not at the same level it was in the early summer of 2008, it has recovered from its lows sustained several months later.

I don't scrap cars but I have heard that fluids, tires, and gas tanks have to be removed. Prices will vary depending on your location. Metal going overseas, and delivered to recyclers located on the coasts, will pay more. You need to call the buyer at several yards. Don't get your quote from the guy operating the scales. He is always instructed to lowball.

You should also compare your quotes with people in your area who do scrap. That would include salvage yards, more commonly known as junkyards. Find out what they are getting to deliver auto residue and how they prep their loads.

Wife's cousin crushes scrap. I ask him about the prices the other day and he starts out complaining that it's down.....when I said "what's the per ton price" he told me it's "down to 220 a ton". So I said that ain't bad and ask him why he was reluctant to state a price......got told well most people ask and then wait 4-5 months before they call. If the prices tank they still want the price he stated way back then. And that's him coming out to pick it up.....you bring it to him he's paying 240.

REALLY simple. $500 cash in your hand or it becomes chinese trivets at WaldoWorld.

In my area you can not scrap a car unless you have a title in hand and it has to be in your name to boot. If you pull one in with out a title they will call the cops and then you have to explain who what when and where you got it from

Must not be the case at the scrap yard around Brazito, as they took the stolen car in Eldon my employee owned and had title to. Eldon PD told him if the car is over 10 years old they do not need a title to scrap it. He lost the car and had to pay tow and storage just to recover, and turn around and scrap it himself basically.

I just sold a 97 Intrepid to a junkyard. 3 different yards quoted me $200, but this one gave me $300. I drove it in.

If it is in any kind of shape you would be better off to take it to the junk yard. Think about it like a tractor...if you collected and restored old Monte Carlos would you want it "sent to China" or scavanged for parts.

Scrap is still up around $240 here in WI.

When we get quotes up here they are only good for 10 days or so. That is how they solve that problem. They type it right in the computer with your name and phone number.

Ya there are a few yards like that but not this side of the Lake of the Ozarks that I have found. Sad how the cops have gotten to the point they no longer do there jobs the correct way

The few scrap yards I have been to, the scale operator is also the office manager, receptionist, and secretary.

Take it easy if you had to deal with all the retards we do you might have a bad day as well. And if your local cops are retards themselves then you have only your local city council/county board of supervisors to thank for hiring them. Not looking for trouble just my 2 cents.

There are still an awful lot of Buford T. Justices and Roscoe P. Coltranes out there abusing their offices for personal gain...
