Farmall Oil Guage readings

Has anyone had at some point both a Farmall Oil pressure guage on an H and then later a numerical guage to see how much pressure the pumps actually produce?

Last weekend I had access to 10w-30 but not straight 30w. I changed the oil and when I started the tractor up the level was displaying close to the "L" on the guage. After warming up and driving for 10 miles it was down to the "O" and after plowing for an hour the pressure was reading right on the border of the white zone and the red zone. I"m replacing the oil with 30w tonight, but wanted to get an idea of what the pressure might be at the red zone, 5 pounds? 10 pouds? What might the pressure be at startup when the needle is at 75%, 30lbs? 50?

I just replaced the bearings in my 340 this spring and went through the oil pump because I was running under 10 pounds when the tractor was warmed up. My guess is your red line somewhere around 5 pounds.

I have a replacement oil pressure gauge from Case-IH on my 1950 H. The gauge IS an IH item with the IH logo, but it is marked off in actual numbers, 0 to 75. A good, solid H engine will carry 75 pounds of oil pressure.

Your H is displaying some issues with the oil pump. Most likely the bottom cover plate is worn, or the gasket is blown out. The cover plate can be re-surfaced and the proper gasket is available from Case-IH. Take care of the oil pump issues and your tractor will once again have great oil pressure.

Hs, Ms and 9 series use an 80 lb gauge. As, Bs and all others with that style engine (113, 123, 135, 146, and 153) up through the 340 use a 45 lb gauge. Engines that use the 45 lb gauge have an oil pump with an aluminum bottom cover that often warps and has gasket failures. The larger engines that use the 80 lb gauge have a cast iron bottom cover on the oil pump.

Dont quote me, the gauge shown about is good 45lbs. (May be 55lbs., I dont really recall) I have one of these on my Ms and all 3 peg the gauge cold, warm they only drop whn at idle. I had a 75lb. IH gauge on one of my Ms, it would peg that hot and high idle, 35ish at idle
