just rebuilt 39 a and retourqued head 3 times. getting seepige around head gasket, and moister in valve cover? whats happining? thanks. mark in iowa. had block and head at machine shop for cleaning and checked, new gaskets, valves and giudes, sleaves and all that. m i missing something?

Are you torqueing to 80 ft-lbs? Originally torque spec for head bolts was 60 ft-lb and a lot of the manuals still say that. However, the 60 was revised to 80 ft-lbs a long time ago.

Moisture in the VC might be condensation. Do not worry that yet.
Seepage should not happen, but if the tractor gets 20 hours on it (and retorqued to 80 as indicated below)and still seeps, use Subaru block sealer (OTC at Subaru, and works. It is SOP on 2000 and up Subarus).

I rebuilt a BN and had similar problem with seapage between the head gasket layers. I took it out and worked it good so the motor got hot, sealed her right up. Hasn't weeped a drop in 4 years since.
