340 bad TA/clutch

We have a 340 utility with bad TA & clutch. Having trouble getting it out of gear. I have adjusted it using the manual, but no help. My question is can I remove (delete) the TA when I replace the clutch? I have heard that some of these vintage tractors were build with TA's.

Try adjusting the TA clutch so that it starts releasing just as the main clutch is released.
Adjust the main clutch so the pedal moves about 1 inch at the pedal freeplay.
Then put it is third or 4th and just see where the tractor starts to pull as you let up on the clutch.
Measure this amount (safely).
Set the Ta clutch so its T.O bearing is just touching the fingers at this point. Jim

The primary issue with book adjustment is wear on pins and clevises. The trick is to adjust to compensate for the wear. If yours is holding in TA, and shifting to direct works, I would sure adjust before considering a delete. There might be a source for the needed components, but it is complex due to the IPTO drive system. Kevin Meier on this board has parts. Jim

This guy doesn't even know if he has a TA or not...

If the tractor has a TA, there should be a lever next to your left leg as you sit on the seat. It acts like a 2-speed powershift. Pull it back and the tractor shifts down a gear.

Sometimes a previous owner has problems with the TA and removes just the lever so he is not tempted to try it. In that case the way to know if there's a TA in the tractor is to look at the linkages on the left side, running from the clutch pedal.

A non-TA tractor will have one rod going to a single lever on the side of the tractor.

A TA tractor will have a second lever and extra linkage connecting the two levers together.

To make the TA tractor shift easily, BOTH levers must move when you push the clutch pedal.

Thanks for your response. I do know what a TA is. Over the years I have owned a SMTA, 300 & 460 all with a torque amplifier. I will admit that I am not much of a mechanic.
