Super A rear end

(quoted from post at 06:24:06 05/24/11) started making poping noise in reverse like it was binding up now doing it in foward. brakes or gears? or both?

First thing to check is the wheel lug bolts and rim to wheel bolts. If they are loose, you will get a popping sound.

First check tightness of bolts that hold rim to wheel center and the bolts that hold wheel center to axle.
Second, jack up tractor rear end on one side. Rock wheel in and out and see whether there is excess play. If yes, check axle bearings. (Same for other side.)
If both axles check OK, then look into transmission. Put shifter in neutral and pull transmission cover and peek inside.
If transmission checks OK, then remove PTO assembly and check differential and its bearings.

(quoted from post at 08:11:27 05/24/11) Rusty, wasn't aware of your posting about the bolts. Was typing slowly ;-)
Hendrik

That's O.K. I type rather slowly myself. 2 finger hunt and peck system.

I would take the bolts out off the rim and clean them give some oil on them and replace tighten real good mite even want to replace them if they are worn too much. Then remove the ones in the center and lube them up and replace should be the end of the problem. I use an impac to get them real tight not an uncommon problem.
