Farmall Super A will a 1954 Super A motor swap into a 1949

Hey there. Just got a Farmall Super A yesterday. Have a question. It runs, it smokes, It's had a long life on a tobacco farm. I want to start off with a fresh motor. I would like to do a swap.

Will a 1954 Super A motor fit in a 1949 Super A. I suspcet that it is a direct fit and it is my understanding that the later 50's models just had a bigger bore. I'm not certain, but I thought someone on this forum could tell me.

Why not just rebuild the one you have now? A swap might be no better than the engine you now have. Joe

It will, hope its not coming out of a Super A1 that
would be a shame to cut up that rare of a tractor.

I am exploring my options right now. I am liquidating some guns so that I may restore this tractor. I wouldn't be opposed to a rebuild, but I don't know what the cost difference would be.

If there's just smoke from the current engine I would keep the original engine and rebuild it with a new sleeve kit and bearings. Have the crankshaft measured for wear at your local auto machine shop buy the new bearings from them.

Have the head reworked too. That engine has wet sleeves and your block shouldn't need any machining. With new sleeves and pistons your tractor will have a new rebuilt engine and last a long time. You can also replace the clutch by having the old one rebuilt when you pull the engine. Hal

(quoted from post at 10:17:09 05/24/11) What kind of guns do you have?

I'm selling a Colt 10mm and a sig, but I can only sell to another Virginian that I can prove can lawfully own a gun because I don't have an FFL.

(quoted from post at 10:23:10 05/24/11) If it is a 123 you may have problems as it is taller

If it is from a 1954 it is definitely a 123, whereas mine is a 113, but the sheet metal on those super A's look the same to me.

Does the engine block on the tractor you bought does it have this casting number 354898R1? If it does that's the same engine used on the Super C's and some of the Super A's. You can install an overbore kit to boost the cid to 133cid without any machining to the block. Hal

The grille is taller , look at the touch control unit , there is more room between the gas tank and it on the 123,

It's a rebuilt/remanufactured motor, no hours ready to go. I don't know what happened to the host tractor.

The engine will bolt right in.

Since you're not cannibalizing a running tractor, you've committed no major sins. Go forth and wrench in peace.

The hydraulic pump does not look the same as my engine. Could that be a problem?
