'49 H Decal Placement Guy Fay's Book

Hello all. Thanks to those who chimed in to help me locate my light switch and air cleaner decals. I have a few more small decals to ask about. I realize that all the info I need is in a book by Guy Fay, but I can't justify buying a rather expensive(as far as books go) book just to position a half dozen decals. This H is the only tractor I ever plan to restore, and it is pretty much done now. I just need to put the decals on. So I was hoping to rely on the knowledge and experience of you fine folks to help me position the decals. Here are the decals I need help with: 1. the big "Farmall Macormick-Deering" decals on the side of the hood. How far from the front edge of the hood, and how far above the ridge in the hood side? 2. the little yellow curved decal that says "open", followed by an arrow to the right. Where does it go??? 3. Gear shift pattern decal. where does it go? 4. Yellow rectangle decal, says "Do not attempt to pull when drawbar is removed" Where does it go? 5. Rectangle with black & white diagonal stripes, says " Be Careful do not make short turns" Where does it go? 6. Black rectangle, says " Safety First, Stop power take off before dismounting tractor". Where does it go? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help with any of these decals. You guys are the greatest!! ---Jon

Check out Amazon for a deal on that book. Yes, it does seem pricey, but you get hours and hours of enjoyment from it. Far beyond the info on decal placement.

the big farmall decal is to be centerd between the lower hood seam and 1/2 " above it. only measure straight lower seam not where it curves up.
gear shift decal goes 18 1/2 " back from rear of hood mounted in the middle of tank towards rear.
the brake warning goes 1/2 " above this decal mounted centrally.
drawbar decal goes 1/2" below top of trans case mouted in center.
power take off goes 1" below top lip on seat in center.
the round H decal goes in a 1/2" radius from the curved seam.

You forgot the "open" decal. That's for the shutter crank on dual fuel engines. Don't know the orientation. Somebody else may know.

Rustred is correct with all the measurements. That's what I went off of for my H. Thought you might like to see a visual too so here's some pictures.

Jim, Guy's book that is being referred to is titled "Originality Guide Farmall Letter Series Tractors" which was co-authored by Andy Kraushaar. I bought mine brand new from overstock.com for about 1/2 price as I recall in 2004. It's a great book and the decal placement is just one small portion of the book as most is about development and changes to the various 1939-1954 Farmall models of IHC's glory days. It is a great reading and informative book that every Farmall enthusist would want and read, Hal.

Yes it is a great book and I refer to mine regularly to double check stuff on mine and friends tractors. I also recommend getting
"Farmall Model H - Photo Archive" edited by P.A. Letourneau. It is a collection of original factory photos showing different year models and is very helpful in determining decal placement changes over the years, and even decal oddities like I found out that on my 1940 H, even without a PTO installed, the tractor still got the PTO warning decal. It has 130 or so photos and factory cut-away drawings, each one takes up an entire page so you don't have to squint and the only error in the whole book I found was on page 45, it shows a model B instead of an H, cultivating Marigolds! You can also look all the photos up in the IHC archives online if you want to take the time.

Seth, that is the sweetest looking H I have seen. Great job!! Thank you for posting the pictures. That will really help.
