Super C Fast Hitch

I have a "53 Super C (new to me), and am disassembling the fast hitch for a more thorough cleaning and painting. I"d like to remove the ball sockets at the end of the rockshaft (arrow in photo). They are held in place by a roll pin. Does anyone have any experience removing the ball socket? Once the pins are removed, how hard to you have to pound to get them off the rockshaft? Thanks in advance for any information.

I agree with Putter! There some parts that SHOULD NOT BE DISSAMBLED, some cleaning methods that should not be used( as in NO SANDBLASTING!!). What you take apart you must reassemble. Think before you dissamble and use common sense! Armand

I beleive once you removed the roll pin, the ball stays in the socket, and both pieces will then come off the center shaft, there should be a press in grease sert on the socket, all that is necessary is just keep them greased, wire wheel & repaint as is, once you move the hitch up & down a few times the paint will come back off the ball anyway.
When I redid my 300, I steam cleaned the unit off the tractor, used a 4 in wire wheel and cleaned what rust I could reach, used an etch base primer, painted all the interior sufaces ( hanging brackets & pivots) then hung the unit on the painted tractor, and then finished painting both.

The balls on the 400 use a roll pin inside of a larger roll pin. I have had no problem driving both out at the same time. The ball should slide off without too much persuasion.

You might want to mark them so that if there is wear (yep, you have some), you can reassemble them either upside down or rotated 180 to take up some slop. Best solution would be to get a new socket arm.
