Farmall H starting problem

Started my H today and went out to hook up plow. Shut off H and hooked up plow and when I went to restart, Starter went for 1/2 second and and stopped. Hit starter button again and nothing. YOu can feel and see power going through positive wire from starter button but nothing at starter. Any suggestions?

Starter is probably locked into the flywheel; fairly common problem. Loosen the mounting bolts and bump it. Then retighten.

Caused by a bad drive.

Check your battery terminal connections and all the heavy gauge wire connections at the starter switch and starter terminal stud. Your symptom looks and acts like the classic high resistance connection in that the starter engaged for 1/2 a second and then nothing. Clean and tighten all the connections and make sure the starter terminal does not turn while tightening. Any connection that gets real hot indicates a high resistance.

I agree with Allan also but I would like to know how you see/fell power going any place. I worked as an E.T. in the navy and the only way we ever saw it was if you had a meter hooked up and then you did not see the power you saw the reading on the meter which told you what was going on.

Most of the time when Ive "seen" and "felt" the power, the starter is hung up and the cables were too light. I know what youre talking about. that cable to the starter jumps a little, right? We cant all be perfect in our explainations!

agree with allen... sometimes you have to pull starter off and push gear back with your fingers, at least that's what I had to do.

For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. When that magnetic field leaves the wire, the wire moves.
