Hey, I did that once. About 50 years ago. Really jumps around. You have the input timed wrong. I can't remember now which way is correct but you can install it either lined up with the lobe or between the lobe and you have it wrong. I did something similar a few years ago on a 830 John Deere. When I put the steering pipes on I though they should run nice and parallel, wrong, they need to cross over each other. That thing would have broke your arms if you had your hand on the steering wheel. Of course, lot of John Deeres were that way when they were correct. The older 20 series 4 whl drive. You never put your hand through the spokes of steering wheel when you started them.

I'm feeling like a know-it-all this morning, and I really don't care what anyone thinks...

It's NOT a "hand motor." A hand motor is like what's on the 56 series and up, where there is no mechanical connection between the steering wheel and the front end. You turn the hand motor, and it pumps oil to the cylinder on the front end.
