Purchased from IH 13194D screen and 355888R2 cork gasket . The new screen in about .070 in. thick versus .030 or so for the old falling apart screen.
So now when I install new parts the plastic screen protrudes above the recess in sediment bowl so I have to tighten the bail far tighter than I want using a pliers. Finger tight should be tight enough and the archives say "do not over tighten" or you will warp the body.
Any body ever run into this?
Was wondering if later tractors had a deeper recess in glass bowl? Thanks.

Are you sure you removed all the old gasket. I had the same problem on my H it seemed the person before me had two gaskets on it.

I get my screens from NAPA also they have the rubberr gaskets and they work fine i have not had good experience with the cork ones

Yes gasket is all cleaned out. I inspected with a mirror and light. Also cleaned the surface with a pad. Thanks.

I have had to trim the outer edge of those plastic screens to get them to fit down in the recess properly. There are some different sediment bowls out there and not all the same. One thing about a cork gasket, you may have to let it soak for a while to get it to seal properly. I usually turn the gas on , let bowl fill and then turn it off for a few hours to let the gasket soak. I used to take the steam cleaner and really soften them up to take up for distortion in the assembly(from over tightening). Don't have access to steam cleaner any more and boiling hot water is not as effective.

they sell a brass screen and depending on what size bowl you have you might have to trim it,the plastic screen is crap throw it away,I dont care if you are the pope you cant get them not to leak, the gasket rubber or cork both work fine ,just my 2 cents have to do one about every month on a different tractor each time(would have to take my gloves and shoes off to count tractors

I get new sediment bowl screens from my local Orscheln's farm and home store. They are the simple brass screen and it comes with the cork gasket which is a part on its own so it fits just fine

I've got 2 Hs that get used on a regular basis. Both have the sediment bowls with the plastic screen. Niether has ever leaked or offered to leak, and both get disassembled and cleaned at least once per year. No leaks ever.
