WD-9

New User
Just brought home a WD9 and found it has a cracked head. My question is this. Are there certain areas these things crack that doom them from repair, or do they crack in random areas? Mine has what looks like a crack between valve seats, and one more from a water passage to the border of the fire ring on the head gasket.

I think they can all be fixed for the right amount of money. I hear about a lot of them cracked between the valves.
I took my MD head to Pakes Engine in Janesville, WI and he said he has fixed quite a few of the gas start diesel heads.
Also, talk to D282. He has an older style WD-9 head for sale. IIRC it is rebuilt and tested.

That is very typical. Most heads can be welded, which at my machine shop is $1000 for just welding. All parts and labor is extra. (They own Nevada Cylinder Head Co.)
I have an early rebuilt head as sflem849 mentioned for sale. A bare head from Worthington is $800. Send me an email if you are interested.
Good Luck.
