tractor has been stuck, started tear down today, not near as easy as a deere tear down, but I might make it, got the head ready to take off, now I see the steering rod has to come off or out of the way, hope no more surprizes. cleaned cyclinders and put some john deere fluid film in the cylinders, maybe that stuff for green tractors will work on red ones as well. Ha, Will try to finish getting the head off tomorrow if I can get that steering rod out of my way.

pull the big nut on the front of the bolster, take the bolt and key out in front of the u joint. The steering shaft should screw out and you will be fine.

BTW, I used JD parts clean and anti-sieze on my H. It works just fine, but I think it misses on two cylinders once in a while now.

I hope the JD's are easy to rebuild. My worker guys dad toasted a 60(?) that I am trying to get bought. He ran it "low" on oil and it must have siezed or something. I am trying to buy it cheap enough that I can make it functional again.
I'm a little scared about what I might find. Probably going to be a full rebuild, maybe even a bunch of new parts. Hopefully the crank is still good.

I would expect the crank would be the first thing with issues if the
tractor was run low on oil,

does the steering shaft come outt the front???? The tractor had been rained in, but doesnt look to bad.

One good thing when you are done with the overhaul you will have tractor that will run nice and smooth and not be banging away in your ears.

Look at it this way, you didn't have to torch the hood out or remove the steering rod to get the muffler off! LOL!

Yes, it comes out the front. It is a spiral gear that you have to screw out of the sector gear. It makes sense once you take that big cap thing off the front of the bolster. Not real sure how to drain the oil. I just unscrewed the cap and made a big mess. Probably not the right way
