Timing on a Farmall 560 Deisel Tractor

I have a Farmall 560 Diesel tractor that had the injector pump seize and the drive shaft broke. I have had the pump repaired and a new drive shaft. The book I have(Form GSS-1010)says that the number one piston is to be T.D.C. but it fails to tell me what the number on the damper assembly correlates to T.D.C.
Can someone tell me the corresponding number on the damper assembly for the number one piston T.D.C.?

there is a TDC or a T stamped right on the vibration dampener. then you set timing to 3 degrees before TDC by aligning the pointer to 3 degrees. shut off fuel remove timing window from pump. align the two marks and tighten down pump bolts. set to go.

You may also have a steel ball imbedded in the dampener instead of a T or TDC. 10° BTDC and 10° ATDC should also be marked.

Thank you so much. I followed the instructions in the manual and now I get fuel to the pump but it will not pump to the injectors. Any Ideas???

Thanks, I was able to find the "T" and set it 3 degrees before T.D.C., but now I only get fuel to the pump but not to the injectors. Any thoughts??

If the person who repaired the pump ran it on a test bench it should prime up readily, but if he did not have a test bench it will take a whole lot of spinning that engine to get fuel through to injectors. I would take off the fittings at the injections nozzles and give it a good pull as this will save you a ton of cranking with the starter. Just be sure to have TA in direct drive (lever forward) and use high gear. I always remember the very first 560 we were trouble shooting back in about 1960 at service training, they had battery chargers hooked up and said, it will eventually start. What I got in the habit of doing when I repaired the pumps was hook them up to the tractor fuel supply with pump temporily mounted on side frame and put a hand operated speed wrench on them and cranked the heck out of them. Saved a lot of starter and battery. Also, I was able to be certain pump would deliver and shut off fuel. A runaway engine is always in the front of your thoughts when you have reassembled an injection pump. Never had it happen but came close once.
