TRACTOR WIRING

I CAN DO ABOUT ANYTHING TO A TRACTOR BUT REWIRE IT, SO I HAVE A 1958 230 INTERNATIONAL WITH A ALTERNATOR, A AMP GAUGE , A PULL SWITCH, AND OF COURSE A STARTER , PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME ON HOW TO WIRE THIS TRACTOR, MY E-MAIL IS [email protected] OR CALL 641-208-5031, PLEASE HELP THIS IS MY FATHER-IN-LAWS BIRTHDAY PRESENT FOR MAY 30 EVERYTHING IS DONE BUT THE WIRING

What type of alternator do you have? If a one wire, that's really simple, but not the best choice for a farm tractor, IMHO. If you have a three wire one, we can point you to some wiring diagrams that will make the job very easy to accomplish. Lights add a bit more wiring, but with what you have to install, you will have any easy task, indeed. Just get back to us with your alternator type and the experts here will guide you down the correct path, for sure.

Garry, I was at the same stress point on my first tractor wiring job and Bob M who posts on this forum "spoon fed" when necessary but this isn't like trying to walk on the moon. I would suggest a couple of things, one of which is to find Bob M's wiring diagrams (some PC expert will probably post a direct link for you) on this forum for your tractor. And as noted by Harold Evans in his post the type of alternator you have will make a difference. Another thing which I did being inexperienced in the task was to only do one wire at a time and follow the diagram to a T. The wire harnesses I bought had every terminal labeled as to where it was to be attached which was a big help. Whoever you obtain your wire harnesses from will probably include some sort of diagram for installing them and they may use different colored wires which will be your clue as to installation. I would study the wire diagrams very closely before starting and ask questions before installing if you have a question. I would certainly not cut any wire thinking something was wrong before contacting where your harnesses were obtained for clarification. Good luck and a tractor is fairly simple to wire. We wish you the best and come back when you have more questions, Hal.
