F-12 restoration updates

Started tearing into the F-12 a couple weeks ago and thought I"d share a few of the surprises.

First off this tractor has been sitting since around "79-80 outside! Oil pan had only a tablespoon or two of very clear water then a few quarts of very clean oil. Pulled the head off and was surprised to see step head high comp pistons. Three of the cylinders had minimal surface rust and no ridge.

You sure you don't have an F-14? Appears to be a wide front too.

Should have lots of used parts available if needed.

I have a '37. It isn't pretty, but my favorite of the fleet.

Pete...this is technically a F-12 but it has had a complete F-14 conversion. This was available to purchace through IH. Basically everything on a 14 has been put on this 12. One thing that I"ve always wondered about was the head. Wasn"t sure if that was part of the package. Sure enough it does have an F-14 head on it.

The wide front is a custom job by the owner before my grandfather. Model A Ford axle.

I hope you keep that unssal homemade front axle and pulley brake. They are priceless, one of a kind tribute to a vanishing breed of man(American farmer)

Seth,Keep up the progress, it will all come together sooner or later. There is no better feeling than when you get it to the point where you turn the crank and it starts. I had a 1931 Regular in the shop, basket case stuck a real mess. But last week I finished putting pistons back in and got to here it run for a fue minutes.
Still a lot of work to do. Save another one!

Nice looking unit. I think I may see some concern in the look of the lady in the pic. It may not get better. My dad had an F-12 that was abandoned on our farm. I remember it sitting in a brush pile as a boy. It belonged to the farmer Dad had contracted with to clear about 150 acres on new ground in south GA back in 1950. I don't guess the man who abandoned it or my Dad knew he would not come back for it. Eventually Dad sold it for scrap matal! Such a waste, but Dad had spent way too much time on tractors that did not have complete hydraulics.

On the head...one has two bolts and one has three holding the valve cover on. My 35 isn't here for me to look at. F-14 also had long brake levers, F-12 are little stubby things you crack your head on the steering wheel when pulling them. Real fun to use F-12 brakes in hill country!

That axle looks like about a 32 Ford car axle and wheels. Have one on an old 20s-30 ford pickup trailer I haul fire wood with.
