Farmall A governor control question

I have a '47 A that has a weird governor control problem.

With the two springs in their correct locations (long in the back and short in the front) the control stops about 3 or 4 notches from the end and conversely doesn't go to WOT until you pass the notches on the other side.

If I flip the springs around (sort back long front) everything seems to line up correctly.

Now the book and my other two small Farmalls (A and a BN) show it should be long in the back and short in the front.

I've looked everything over real well and can't for the life of me figure out why this A is different. Nothing seems bent or out of place.

I'm not sure if there's any problem running the springs opposite of they way they were intended but it seems to work OK.

Just a curious problem, wondered if anyone had any insight.

Sounds like you need to syncronize the carb linkage. With engine not running, place speed control in wide open position. Remove pin from governor rockshaft arm and carb rod yoke. Hold carb rod and gov rockshaft as far toward carb as they will go. Adjust yoke on rod so that the holes line up and pin slides in freely.

I've done that already...

It's completely on the input side that things a off, not on the output side.

The only thing I can think of the rod that runs from the hand control to the governor is just a little off.

Wear to the shaft/housing where the arm goes into the governor can have a lot of effect on where the control lever ends up. Setting of the high idle stop screw does as well. I don't know if that will explain what you are seeing.

Thing is the high idle stop would effect the where the lever ended up in the forward position, not the backwards one.

I don't know, I guess I should be happy just flipping the springs around. :p
