Farmall Cub engine rebuild

Thanks all for helping me find the date of this machine w/o the tag. Engine casting # 10 28 E which corresponds to 1959.

Need a new crank, and gearset. Exhaust valve stems worn, guides a bit worn.

Bore measures 2.649-.652. Since the shop won"t bore w/o new pistons to measure, I presume the bore is at .020, with some wear. I assume I will need to order .040 over.

Can anyone confirm the bore/piston size? I"m still locating a manual....Are the DVD versions any good?

Any experience with knurling the guides? The seats look good, and I think a quick grind will suffice.

Thanks again, in advance,
Colin

2 5/8" (2.625")is standard. .040 may clean it up unless there are any pits of scratches. I had to go to .060 with about the same measurements.

Free Manuals on Rudy's Farmall Cub site.

I did not replace the guides. The machine shop said they were OK and they were very hard to get out.
It would be a shame if you bought 0.40 over and it did not clean up at that. My shop finds what is available and then bores before I buy.

You may be able to get away with .030" os pistons. They have .040" os pistons here on this forum. Your machine shop should be able to get os pistons. Hal
