Farmall 1206 - diesel in oil

I am getting diesel fuel in the crank case. I recently had the injection pump rebuilt. It seemed to be running fine until I noticed the crankcase level was increasing daily.Did I do something wrong when I put the pump back on? Any thoughts or ideas. Thanks - Kevin

Did you install new shaft seals? There are two of them. One of them keeps fuel in the pump, the other keeps lube oil in the pump drive/timing gear area. If you are getting fuel in crankcase, the seal on the fuel side of the pump shaft is not sealing. Could be seal lip was cut or lip got folded back or entire seal installed backward. Pump has got to come off to investigate.

When I took the pump off the first time, I did not notice any seals on the shaft. I did not pull the injector pump drive shaft out of the housing on the tractor. Where do the seals go? I am sure I made a mistake somewhere. I ran tractor 1 1/2 hours today and the oil level rose about 1/4" on the dip stick. Could timing cause this? I am really behind cutting hay and I need to get this resolved. Thanks for any help you can provide - Kevin

On the 1206 the seals are in the adaptor housing,so you need to take that off as well as pump. They are traditional lip style seals.

Seals are out in pump where the shaft goes through side of the pump that goes against the timing gear(?) case. Just had that done on mine. Tracot sat for a month and had 5 gallons of diesel in the oil. Cost me $268 to have a guy come out, fix it, reinstall it , and get her all primed and ready to roll. One more reason to ALWAYS check the oil before you start a tracotr, or anything.

Had the same thing happen to my 826. Had the pump rebuilt and shortly after it was getting fuel in the crankcase.Falty seal on pump shaft... really ------ me off cause it cost 1000 to have the pump done, then had to spend another 100 to get the seal fixed, and all my labor pissing around taking it on and off, retiming, and bleeding...

Different situation with a 1206. On your 826 the seal in right in the pump but on the 12 the seals are in the adaptor housing that drives the pump. Some guys don't take that off when they have pump repaired and some do. So , it depends on who took the pump off the 1206 where to lay the blame. On yours, I would have thought who ever repaired your pump would have put a new seal in at no charge, however, if you removed and installed the pump your self he can't stand that labor for that part as he didn't charge for it.

Thanks for your help. I replaces the two seals inside the housing and it seems to be doing fine. After the pump was rebuilt, I was told it creates about 20 psi inside the pump and it was pushing fuel past the old seals. The old pump probally did not have near the psi, so it did not push fuel past the seals. Lesson learned. Kevin
