Wrong distributor cap for Farmall H?

I picked up a distributor cap for my H a while ago. It is an A&I Products A-351693R1. It states it fits the H, etc. I even confirmed it on their website.

The problem is, the lug on the bottom of the cap is too wide for the notch in the dust cover, with the too big lug aligned with the too small notch, the side spring clips do not line up, and the side springs are about 3/4" short.

The distributor has a Delco Remy plate right on the front.

Any ideas?

You picked up the cap for an original equipment battery ign IH distributor. Delco was an option some dealers installed.

You need one for the Delco Remy dist must have got at some discount type deal and there were three types of dist for the H.

I believe many tractors used a Delco Cap that will work. TO 20 Ferguson being one of them.

With your Petronix electronic ignition you do not need the dust cover.

IH, Delco, and Prestolite are the three types.

You got the correct part. You have the wrong tractor.

In the Pertronix instructions (did read them, believe that

) it stated I may need to make the hole in the dustcap larger, that is why I have it on.

Regardless, the cap I bought would not have fit.

I think Pete is right. The IH dist.cap will not match up with Delco or Prestolite distributor caps.

I found out my conversion was one using the vertical Delco distributor. As you can tell, I do not have a deep knowledge of the H

.

I went to a local independent parts store and they knew exactly what I needed. The guy said it was the same as the 300?

Regardless, it fits. Better yet, it works!
